To Sylvia Plath

Sylvia, you were a lizard. Not
so bold as a dinosaur
and not so manipulative as a snake.

You sensed out all with careful
calculation, skirting around everyone
like a cat around a pool.

Cooling in the shadows, you watched
and plotted with slitted pupils, foreboding
queen; you married yourself.
