The Suitors

The suitors lined themselves to be inspected
while Miss Lydia Poler walked
through the garden and waited
for her father’s decision. It was an eventful
day. The dogs had escaped early
that morning and Lydia’s dress
was found to be not as well-fitting
as originally suspected. Yet, the suitors
would come – and did – so there was nothing
to do but to expect them and be as prepared
as was able.
